Rohan Bopanna was always going to be in contention for the only doubles spot available in the Davis Cup team that will play New Zealand in February. Only, India’s highest-ranked player, 28th in the world, was dropped, with Leander Paes picked with Saketh Myneni. Paes (ranked 59) is one win short of the most number of doubles wins in the Davis Cup – tied at 42 with Nicola Pietrangeli of Italy. Bopanna has lashed out at AITA’s inconsistent selection policy, but is hopeful of changes under incoming skipper Mahesh Bhupathi.

Australia and Pakistan, after playing the pink-ball Test, head to Melbourne for the Boxing Day Test that begins on Monday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Australia are high on confidence after notching up a win in the day-night Test which gave them a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series. But it was not a victory that would have kept them satisfied. Pakistan almost pulled off the world record chase of 479 runs in Brisbane. Asad Shafiq’s century took them within 39-run distance but Australia managed to bowl them out and secure a win. The hosts have decided to go in with the same playing XI while there are possibilities that the visitors may bring in Sohail Khan for the Boxing Day Test. Toss will also be a big factor as two teams resume red-ball cricket. Catch the live cricket score and live cricket updates of the Australia vs Pakistan Test from Melbourne here

JHARKHAND’s worst fear came true during the morning session on Christmas day. It wasn’t entirely their fault as the first hour at the Motibaugh ground is always a tricky one but Jharkhand wouldn’t have prepared for the extent of the damage. They collapsed from 228 for 3 to 228 for 6 as Harshal Patel swung and seamed it around but they rallied back through lower-order’s pluckiness to get a lead of 87. Though Haryana ended the day with a lead of 59 with 8 wickets in hand in their second gig, they have to do all the running.
